Hi all,
Yes, I'm new. I have searched. Make no mistake. But how life goes, my problem doesn't seem to be like anyone else's. There are some with possibly similiar problems, but of course not exactly like mine. I will try to break it down as short as possilbe.
1) 1992 Plymouth RS Turbo FWD. 58,000 miles, mint condition. Well, except for my current problems.
2) It will not start up now. When I turn the ignition key, I hear a LOUD clicking which sounds like it's coming from behind the radio or somewhere inside or near the dashboard.
3) It will turn over, but sputters immediately. Not too long ago, if I tried to start the car say 20 times, it would continue to make the "clicking" noise and then all of a sudden turn over and idle fine and run fine.
4) I had a mobile mechanic come out and he diagnosed the alternator as perfect. He said I did need a new battery, but that's probably because the car has sat for a year or so.
5) When I turn the key and hear that "clicking" sound at start-up, the boost guage as well as the tach goes crazy, up and down.
I would think it's electrical, but the mobile mechanic could only find a bad battery. Of course once he left, and the car became cold again, it had the same symptoms as I described above. The clicking, the turbo guage and tach going crazy and the warning interior lights flicking on and off. He did not see this however as once it's "warm" it will run.
This car besides these problems is mint and I really want it to run normal again. If anyone has any suggestions, please pass them on. I am about ready to get it towed to a mechanic, but I KNOW this has to be a common problem to these cars and want to hear other owners opinioin before I hand it off to some random mechanic.
Lastly, I had one place look at it, and checked all fuses and could not figure it out. They are not electrical experts and admitted to that so from them it seems electrical.
Thanks to anyone that can provide any information
