So I think i made one to many AWD launches with the talon. I brought the rpm's up to about 6200 and side stepped the clutch but didnt go anywhere. NO loud noise no grinding nothing. But the car would not go forward or reverse. You can put the car in every gear and it will move just an inch or two and then not go any further. Did I smoke the trans, transfer case or center diff?? Need to get this fixed while I still have some christmas cash :)

Car has an aluminum flywheel and ACT clutch that have under 3k miles on them both

IF the driveshaft broke in the rear wouldnt the car still move since the front wheels would still have power? And if it is the driveshaft how can I check it? Do I need to replace the whole rear or just the axle?

Thanks

In my case I'd get intermittant power to the front wheels then the car would not go. I assume this was due to the VC in the tranny heating up as all power would be shifted to the front wheels?

Anyway... jack the rear of the car up and spin one of the wheels while in neutral. If the other does not turn then the axle shaft is likely gone.

If it is the axle and you've not driven on it much then would likely get by with just a new axle. If the rear is toast (or you have the money).. my suggestion is to source out a 4-bolt upgrade so don't have to worry about this again.

BTW.. I've got a 3-bolt in the tuners classifides if it turns out that's what you need.

Long story short. 4th trans in car. This time I drove the car all around had no problems after installing ne wclutch and clutch palte and almost everything else. Then I stopped at a light and couldn't put the car in gear anymore. I took off the slave cylinder after beleeding it. It seems to be working correctly. But when I moved the fork around, it moved very easy with no resistance. Is this the way its supposed to be? Or is there only pressure while the car is running? The car was off when I pushed on the fork. It was my sons car and I am trying to fix it. I have never worked on a Mistsubushi before.
Email: [email protected] I am gonna sell the car for 3500.00 as soon as I get it running again.

6200 and side stepped the clutch

And I suppose it is ACT's fault if the center hub of the clutch blew....

There are so many things that can break doing something like that...

1. Pull the tcase and check it.. Just because you should check that for leaks and fluid level that is everybody.

2. you can check the rear end seperate from the transwith it out...

3. Next check the trans.. I'd just pull the trans because if it is'nt the rear end, tcase or trans it is the clutch...

Thanks for the advice guys, I will check it out on Sat. I was not blaming it on the clutch at all. I have been racing for years so I am no stranger to abusing/abused vehicles. What ever is broke ya just gotta upgrade it.

Sidestepping the clutch at 6200 rpm is asking for trouble in a dsm (or any awd vehicle for that matter) the drivetrain components are too weak for that kind of abuse....Try slipping the clutch a little when you launch so the drivetrain doesn't take as much of a shock.

That is plain stupid. Do you enjoy breaking and repairing your car? It's by no means designed to handle that shock load.

You obvioulsy haven't owned your DSM that long then.

I dont recommend awd launches unless you have bald tires. I would suggest when launching be fairly gentle and then punch it once the car is moving. Dropping the clutch on that kind of rotating mass is asking for trouble.
