I just finished putting my exhaust manifold, turbo, and O2 housing back on (along with all intercooler pipes, intake, and filter/MAS) after fixing a exhaust leak problem by replacing the studs. The turbo was removed for a couple of wks. When I went to start it for the first time after putting all of this back together, it would idle fine for a very short period of time, then it would throw a CEL code and start sputtering until it finally stalled. It did this about 5 times in a row with longer periods of smooth idle occurring each time before the car would sputter and eventually stall. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I noticed that when the car would sputter, the factory boost guage would start to go crazy- meaning that it jumps back and forth for each time the engine would bog. Also, when the key is turned from the off position to on (immediately after it has just stalled) the vaccuum solenoids on the driver's side of the firewall begin to make a clicking sound and do so repeatedly. After a short break, this would stop but start up again after a short period of time. I have also noticed a grinding-like noise (like something is possibly turning with problem) coming from what seems to be the exhaust side of the motor when the car is started and while it is actually running. The noise is continuous for the most part and seems to continue for about 3 seconds or so after the car has stopped running, and finally stops once everything is completely turned off. I have NO idea what this could be. I am planning on pulling the code, but I just wanted to post to see if anyone else has experienced something similar, or could possibly point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can give, and I'll post any code updates as I gather them.

1. Make sure you've pluged in the mas, I did that one time. LOL

2. Make sure the BOV is recirculated.

3. Always do a boost leak test after you've messed with IC pipes.

4. Don't know if you seperated the turbine housing when you remove your turbo. If so, make sure you put it back correctly. The noise you're describing might be the turbo.

Hope this helps.
