Tons of smoke only when boosting

I think I told that my car smoked very very little when I boosted ...That changed. I was out last nite and I noticed when I boosted the car ALL I can see behind me is smoke lots of smoke ...What would cause the car to smoke so Bad only when the turbo kicks in....I got my ass kicked by 2 riced out honda hb's

What s the color of the smoke?
It could be a lot of thing valve seals leak, piston rings leak, turbo seal leak , breather in the cylinder head cover, etc...

From what I can see in the rear view mirror its grayish white smoke..

have one of your friends drive behind u and tell him to look for what colour it is and ask him what it smells like.

Yes, really depends on what color/smell the smoke is.

Black/gray(smells like gas) smoke = gas = you just need something to tune.
White (smells kinda sweet) = Coolant = could be turbo or headgasket, etc
Bluish white (hard to describe smell...smells like burning oil to me ) = burning oil = could be several things again, rings, stem seals, turbo, etc ...

Post back up with more info on the smoke.

headgasket or turbo most likely since it's under boost. check the compression, do a leakdown test, see if the turbo is leaking oil past the seal on the compressor side.

depends on the color of the smoke.

Well I had my mom drive behind me and she said it was dark gray to black...And smelled like diesel fuel good news right

Sorta good news but you need to get some sort of fuel controller. Talk to Jack at Jacks Speed Shop. Go over to www.coloradoracing.net and look for Jacks forum and post in there. He is the ONLY DSM mechanic in Colorado that you want to work on your car, period.

Wow I didnt think anyone here knew of jack...Im taking my car to jack on tuesday so he can re-align my b-shaft and oil sprocket =to fix my boost prob.. why would I need an aftermarket fuel computer..Wouldnt the stock ecu take care of that

My car is doing this too...... I did a compression test and it came out 171 across the board. Unfortunately, the car is now in storage, so I havent had a chance to try anything else. I was 98% sure it was a clogged PCV valve, so I changed that out. Sure enough, the onld one was completely clogged. The car is all tore apart right now, so I havent been able to test drive it to see if it fixed the problem.

If that didnt do it, then my next guess is valve seals.

i would have to agree with the poor tuning.. what you need is an safc and a datalogger... and then get it tuned adn you will get rid of your problem

I have to disagree. I dont think it can be tuning. I used to be running way rich and there was a little smoke; not even enough for me to see while I'm driving. People behind me told me there was a little smoke. I guess my point is that I've had smoke from poor tuning and I've had this kind of smoke and trust me - it's not the same. I've been driving this car for years on this tune and all of the sudden I have emense amounts of smoke. My compression is great and boost feels strong. I do believe it's oil in the smoke. It's got to be something other than poor tuning......

Check the Valve cover for oil? It sometimes gets in there and follows the to the sparkplugs. I had a semi lose valve cover once and it blew oil inside the plug cover. Blew white smoke when I would shift real hard or floor it....

to day i fixed my coolent leak i was happy so i drive my car i get on it in first and my whole car fills with smoke interior and all what the hell could this be so i look in my engine bay and it is coinng from under the exaust manni what could this be thanx guys did i nock somthin loose. allso i just changed my injectors could that be it also.

Dont know much bout that area but i would check for oil leak on the turbo.

That would be the oil return, not the feed. I suppose if it leaked there, it could easily get on the downpipe and cause lots of smoke...

It's most likely the turbo. Oil seals are probably shot. I had the same problem on my 95 TSI. Tons of smoke out the exhaust after boosting. Replaced the turbo and no more smoke.

well i went under my car today to see whats up if there is a leak there is a leak out of the oil return line but not alot then i look at the botton of the turbo and there is oil all over it and there was onthe wastegate the internal one not the exturnal not on the arm but on the circle part,and ther is oil on the bottom of my intake what the hell is this ware is it coming from
