I finally got some good boost out of my car. I’ve been running it at 27 psi for a only a week. Today I took it out, let it warm up and beat the crap out of it at the local industrial park. It was running really good!! Then I went to the gas station for a second, kept it running and when I drove out of there....no boost!! At all!! And the turbo sounds like its rubbing on something. Please keep in mind that I’ve been working on this car FOREVER and I’ve blown a few 14b's in the past. But this isn’t like any of them, they all slowly died. This just did it all of a sudden....any ideas?

You definately had some compressor surge going on. That is when you try to get way too much boost out of a turbo that can't supply it. This causes a backwave in pressure, due to the unstable air, that enters the compressor housing in an effort to stop the turbo from spinning. This destroys the bearings in the turbo.

I felt no compressor surge this entire time. Please note the turbo I’m running= the FP sleeper 16g, this is not a 16g at all and forced performance is still keeping non buyers from knowing what it is, but I will tell you that it is bigger than a 20G-TD06. All of my housings are ported; I have a 34mm flapper and a 3" turbo back exhaust. This thing was pulling full boost at 3700rpm.

SLeeper 16G is a 20g wheel in a 16G housing, simple as that. Been common knowledge for a while now. And that turbo is a good combo to surge. Too big of a comp. wheel with too small of a turbine wheel. Check the wheels to see if you have any in/out shaft play. Where is the turbo being fed oilwise?

My guess is that something is busted. I had something very similar hapen to both my 16g and a 14b. Both died due to clogged oil feed lines. The 14b lost its exhaust wheel completely, and the 16g moved far enough for the compressor blades to smash into the turbine housing.

Interesting, though I think you bean that your compressor wheel hit the compressor housing, or the turbine wheel hit the turbine housing, simply because the compressor wheel would have to go through the entire combustion posses in one piece to it to the turbine housing. My 14b did the same thing, and slowly died. like I said, this turbo was running strong at 27psi and then...nothing at all.

Yea compressor wheel into compressor housing, got my terminology confused. It's too earl for me to think clearly anyways :p

Why don't you remove the turbocharger and inspect it to end the speculation?

Oh, and if this turbo is such common knowledge, its a 20G-TD06H and if you think that turbine wheel is too small for the 20g compressor, tell the 1000s of people out there running TD05 20Gs that there nuts and all there turbo does is surge. As for the oil its fed from the stock location off of the head. After talking with Forced Performance about the problem, they recommend that the oil be fed off of the oil filter housing when running that high of boost.
