Hi. I am new to this site, actually this is my first post. Anyway I just bought a 96 GS 5-speed yesturday. I test drove the car everything seemed fine no problems. Well after work I got in my car started it up and let it warm up for a few seconds, while it was warming up I turned on my stereo and played with it. A few seconds later the car stalls ??? I start it back up and everthing is fine. I drive around for a little bit, car seems fine. Then I came home and about 1/2 hour later I go for another drive. My dad wanted to drive it so we get in and guess what! the car wont start. I am pretty pissed/nervous when this happens. After a minute or so of cranking it starts?? then runs fine to the gas station. shut off and try again same thing. It was low on gas so I thought that could be it. Put gas in it and works fine. Next day go to work everything fine. at lunch I was driving around and come to a stop light. I put the car in Neutral it stalls! fires right back up. Now at this point the car I haven't had trouble starting the car (yet) but it still dies at idle. Not all the time just some times. Please help me fix this. Oh ya and the car has not brought on any check engine lights or SES or anything? oh one more question does my car have a low fuel light??

Thanks alot.

Jack

I seem to be having the same problem, i think its the spark plugs, cause i took them out and cleaned them and the car worked fine, the next time i had the problem did the same thing..fired right back up. Get some new plugs see if that works. Also some people told me it could be and ecu problem, but i dunno.id try the plugs first..cheaper..LOL p.s. yeah the car has a low fuel light..try not to let it come on :thumb: ..LOL..hope u get your prob. fixed

First do a complete tune up if you've not alreday done so, make sure you change the plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter...etc. Add some fuel cleaner on your next full tank and check for vacum leak. See if that help.

Thanks for the reply's. I did a fuel pressure test and I think its fine. It was right at 50. Anyway I will try the plugs. What kind do you guys recommend?? It appears the car had a resent tune-up because the filter, wires, and coil pack look new. I will pull the plugs and check them. I was told that these engines have a problem of heating the coil pack? The car starts and runs good, its just every once in awhile it will stall at idle.

Thanks, Jack

yeah, it some cases they do..try the plugs, i personally recommend nology plugs, threw trial and error they seem to be the best to me..also when u take your plugs out check the bottom to see if their is any oil or anything, 420a's are notorious for seals breaking and leaking oil in, which would then cause your plug to foul..but good luck, and let us know what happened :thumb:

Well turns out my car just had a tune up. Plugs, flilter, wires etc. look brand new. So I have eliminated that. I even did a fuel pressure check. right at 50. What else could this be? my car still hasn't thrown one code. Today I started it and it died after a sec. Then I started it back up and kind of kept it running at I'd say 1800-2000 Rpms and it acted like it wasn't firing all cylnders then after a few seconds it cleared up. Ran fine the rest of the day. I am having a mechanic take a look at it tomorro. He said it could be some corrosion in the ignition?? What do you guys think?

Thanks Jack.
