Ok i just bought a 5 speed 1997 Eclipse GSX. It has 101,xxx miles. Completly Stock.

When i first got it, i would give WOT and the car would cut out and sputter while boosting. So i replaced the spark plugs and it helped ALOT. It still does it , but not nearly as much. What else could be the problem? It only occurs with WOT, but when i approach WOT slowly it is fine.

Also what is the normal boost reading , on the stock boost gauge, with no mods (where should the needle max out at??). Same with the oil gauge next too it. When i cruise in 5th gear, it gets a little bit above the oilcan picture, which to me seems a little bit too hot.

How much PSI does the motor run stock?

Thanks in advance... to anyone helping me.

Spark Plug wires.

The stock turbo gauge on the bezel just lets you know when the turbo is spooling and it's ecu controlled. It's not reliable at all. Get an aftermarket boost gauge and your car should boost around 12 psi stock.

The oil gauge is not temp, it is pressure. The more the better.

So its good for the oil pressure gauge to be high? .. ok, umm i was just wondering if there was a max the boost needle reached... i was just wondering, but i hope the wires fix my problem.

i have 98 GSX, many mods. Same damn problem. feels liek a freakin exlopsion when i try to WOT. if i turn my boost controller off, and run stock psi though, its smooth as can be. what is the problem?

Since you done have mods up for it im guessing your running alot of boost on no fuel mods = Fuel cut turn the boost donw some till you get pump injectors some sort of tuning device. and even a afpr . adn to the thread started deff get a boost gauge :thumb:

I can't believe no one hasn't chimed in and said to do a boost leak check. You'll be amazed what you find the first time, I can almost guarantee it. I found two ball-point pen tip sized holes in my stock intercooler. Who knows what you may find. It sounds like you have a boost leak though. Go to http://www.vfaq.com then go to "intake" and then follow the write up for "intake leak tester" . Fix any leaks you find and then come back and tell us if that fixed it or not. :thumb:

ok well first of all, the car is modded. when i say modded, its almost completly finished, excpet for an aftermarket IC. I do have fuel mods, and an SAFC. walbro 225, and 660s for injectors. when i bought the car it was runing 20 psi daily, and i had no problem. i have an aftermarket boost gauge too. the thing is , when i turn off my boost controller, the problem goes away. why is it doing that? if i had a boost leak, woulnt i have it wether running 12 psi, or 20?
thanks

boost controller on = more boost = problems. boost controller = off = less boost = no problem? To much boost. Seems pretty obvious to me. Have you looked into more tuning? Leak yes, but 8 more lbs of boost = more pressure = smaller leaks become bigger leaks. Do a leak test, could fix your problems pretty easily

ok, ill do a test, just seems weird to me, the car was tuned by a professional shop, the motor was built by slowboy and all, so i just wasnt sure why a problem woudl be occuring so soon, the car was fine up untill a few days ago, and the kicker is, i havnt been driving it hard!
