I just got a 90 GSX. Anyway its hard to start when cold or when cooled down. I can smell a slight odor of fuel in the engine compartment. Once the car starts up the smell of fuel is very strong from the exhaust. Does this mean my injectors are leaking? What can I do to try and solve this problem. I already changed the spark plugs and when I did I also smell fuel on the plugs and I also changed the wires. Any thoughts?

i got new wires and plugs. No CEL. When I took the old plugs out it wasnt wet but it smelled like gas...

The only other thing I can think of is ....do you have an AFC or an A/F ratio gauge? Do you have anything spliced into your O2 wire going into your ECU. The reason I ask is I had a problem with some wire damage on my O2 wire going into my ECU and I think I had some degradation of the voltage signal going in. The last time I took my Talon out before I put it away I was getting really weird readings on the A/F gauge. It was going full lean on me during part throttle cruising. When I got home I pulled the plugs and saw that they were really wet looking ...like slick black and smelled gas soaked. Well low and behold I checked the wiring and quite a few of the wires were broken inside the sheath for the O2 sensor where I had made my splice. I fixed it with some solder and it seemed to be better.

Sorry for the novel but I hope this helps.

Did you check for any small fuel leaks?at the Fpr sometimes it's degraded vaccum hose or possibly the return line that could be dry rotted it is a '90 that's the only thing i can think of at the moment. By the way ,you would smell gas at cold start cause when the engine is cold, extra fuel is sent through the runners of the intake because when fuel is cold it sticks to the side of the runners and needs alot more fuel to even make it to the combustion chamber, thus the rich fuel "smell" ur getting from the exhaust. :talon:
