Waterloo,
I am going to snap soon. I am trying to replace my front driveside balljoint. I was able to remove the control arm everywhere except for the ball joint stud. I got the nut off but the tapered stud refuses to budge. No matter how much I pry and bang it won't move.

Any suggestions? Is there a special tool that seperates the stud from the steering knuckle?

Thanks,
Josh

Yes there is a ball joint seperater used to seperate the bj from the steering knuckle/hub area.

Autozone rents these...if you don't want to buy one.

When using it you will most likely ruin the boot on the old bj...but you are replacing it...so its no biggie. You are going to have to use a lot of force on the end of the BJ seperater tool...a BFH does the job

Thanks for the info.
Should I bolt the control arm back on or just let it dangle from the ball joint?

I think I have seen that tool, it has a fork that tapers in thickness from the tips to jam the joint apart. I'll see if Canadian Tire loans them out.

Thanks
Josh
