I've had to replace my front passenger axle 3 times in the last several months. I've had the car for over 3 years and never had a problem unitl several months ago. I just replaced it a few weeks ago and it broke again. It keeps breaking in the inner boot closest to the tranny and makes a nasty metal grinding sound. I'm thinking it might be the differential but not positive. Its AWD and I do have a 2600 in it but I've had it in there for over a year. I checked the FAQ and searched but nothing really helped. Any ideas would be appreciated as to what could be causing this.

I also broke 3 passenger side axels on my old '86 Chrysler Laser (same as Dodge Daytona).
After each one was put on I noticed a metal grinding/bearing type sound when coasting through a left hand turn. Then one after another they broke and the shop kept replacing them to no avail. Took it to another shop and he said the problem was that the other shop wasn't alighning the axel ?right? and all he did was measure things up so they alighned properly. Anyway, I get the car back and no more bearing noise under there when coasting through those left hand turns so I was pretty confident the new mechanic got things set straight and that axel held up real good. The stock tires were changed by me from 195/70/14's to 215/60/14's using the same rims. That mechanic told me this had something to do with the broken axels but he compensated for it by measuring and getting everything alligned correctly. Not sure what he exactly did or was even talking about but he straightened out my axel problem.

Your motor mounts have gone to shit.
Get new factory mounts for front and rear and the kit from Prothane.
Your mounts are torn and allowing your motor to flop around in the mounting.
Wheel hop is a killer.

The chrysler mini vans are notorious for tearung up CVs when the moutns are shot.

I second the motor mount theory.

The axle allignment idea is bullshit.

I've been having the same problem. I just broke 2 passenger side axles. Is it more likely to be my transmission mount since it's on that side?

How do I check if a motor mount is bad?
