i have a big16g...and an auto trans.. 7bolt motor..

so i was racing and as soon as the boostr gauge hit 15psi i felt like a loss in power
then on the way home the los of power got worse and this knocking got worse...
sooo 2k rpms felt like redlinea and the knocking sounded like my car was going to blow up...

my first motor crankwalked...(yes i have an auto and it did)
since i have an automatic i coulndt get a 6bolt due to issuses hooking the motor up
to the trans and a pump being in the way. so i got a new 7bolt w/ no sign of cw...

now.. seemings my cas cant be messed up because my car will still start....
what can the problem be.. the sound is comming from the bottom end of the motor and the higher the rev the more and louder the knocking is... im glad the car is doing it now because im buying a 91 tsi in feb :thumb: but my guess is a rod or maybe cw.. what do you guys think?

The knock sounds like a spun rod bearing or a wrist pin. I wouldn't run it anymore. Pull the oil pan and checkfor metal.

that does sound like a rod bearing, that is what my car sounded like when i bought it.
when i pulled the motor down i had one rod bearing literally gone and the other 3 where to the point where they were down to the brass looking wear marks

Could it be the ever so haunting noise of a spun or even completely destroyed balance shaft bearing...they make wicked ####ing noises...pardon my french.

I would agree with the people on here who have said it's the rod bearing. Drain the oil and take the oil pan off. You might find pieces of metal in the oil pan and you'll probably be able to wiggle one of the caps on the crank. Good luck. :thumb:

Its the rod bearing. Same sh!t happened to me 2 months ago. After running it somewhat hard, my car started to knock, i had loss of power and 2k rpm was like redlining to me, it wouldnt go any further than that. I wasnt going anywhere, felt like no boost at all. Well, it finally stalled on me at the traffic light, had to get the MOFO towed. It was a rod bearing, my first signs told me it was a rod bearing because i checked in the oil and it had metal in it.

Good luck with your car, now wouldnt be a bad time to go with a 6 bolt

to muc to do a manual swap.. easier to buy ananotehr car.. witch i am going to do..
yeah i do believe it is the rod bearing... err ...
