how do I do a water pump install, and how long does it take?

Do I absoulity have to change timing belt?

I have a 97 GST

To get the pump off you have to remove the motor mount, the tbelt cover, all the pulleys, accessory belts, and the tbelt. Since it's off why not replace it. If you know what your doing expect atleast a few hours. If you've never had that side of the engine apart take the afternoon. If your thinking about skimping and not replacing the T-Belt then just think about the bill that you would have to pay for the belt breaking 2k+ versus 60 dollar mitsu belt.

Check out www.vfaq.com for a write up on changing the T-Belt. What ever you do check and double check the timing marks before starting the motor and if it's running like crap when you do start it I almost guarantee that it's off by a tooth on one of the cams. Also take note on the balance in the oil pump. The mark for the gear can line up but you have to turn the gear 2 times for the balance shaft inside to rotate 1 time. If it's out of phase you will feel vibration lightly at idle and pretty good when you rev it. You will have take the timing belt off again to rotate it 360*
