I have a 1990 Eclipse and it is an automatic. The ECU in it says:

MD166255
E2T36572 Side of it says: 6255
1Y06 M

What does that M mean at the end?

But with that ECU it is really slow it is hard to get up to speed. Is it that I need a new ECU or what? Thanx

So what that all means is you have a 6/90-5/93 1G TEL 2.0L NA FWD (D22A) Federal AT (and MT) ECU. We don't know for sure what the M means but it doesn't mean Manaul trans. I've had several of the MD166255 ECU's in from ATX cars and they all had M in the lower right.
The same part number is used on the Manual transmission cars.

Does your car run different with another ECU in it?

Yeah that ECU is in the car but I have another ECU : ELC20D7
MD750525
G1T11375M
1Y20
But that one does not hook up so do you know which one I need?

That's because it's a TCU not a ECU. It runs the transmission not the engine.
You'll find the TCU for your ATX below and in front of the ECU in your car.

That TCU is for 2.0L NA ATX cars built between 9006.2 and 9206.3 it might work in your car but if you have a car built between 8805.1 and 9006.1 the correct TCU would be a MD732004

Ok so I'll need the MD732004, but what do all the 9006 and those numbers mean?

For example 9006.1 means the first week of June 1990. 9006.2 is the second week of June 1990. In this case that's when the factory switched from building 1990 model year cars to building 1991 model year cars.

As far as helping with why your car is slow, I don't have anything to go on.

Hey, will a non turbo TCU work on a turbo car??? or FWD or AWD??? VICE VERSA??

I have found out that the 92 talons non-turbo and 92 awd have the same TCU number MD750525, is that right? I find that hard to believe.......is there a cross reference place where i can check TCU numbers and corresponding car models?? :talon: :talon:

Again. TCU is for the trans. Forget about it and let it be. (unless you have problems with the trans.)

Just get the right ECU for the car and try it. I highly doubt that the ECU is making your car slow. When they go they usually make the car not run(that's REALLY slow) or make it misfire or other issues like that. But Let me shed some light on the correct ECU for your car...

If that doesn't help, I don't know what to say.
