car wont start

Ok, i bought my talon 3 years ago, never did anything to it, just my daily, and drove it like crazy. 3 years later i figured this car has been damn good to me, that its worth dropping a new motor in. However the company i bought the motor from is jerking me around. So no motor yet. Now on to the issue.

I drove up to the quickemart for some drinks for work today, car started up fine, got done buying my stuff, went to start the car and it acts like it wants to start but wont go. Keep trying and it feels like im getting zero fuel or zero spark. About 20 minutes later, tried to start her up again and she fired right up no problems.

Got to work, went home for lunch, car started up fine, but when i went to go back to work, she did the same thing, no go. Figured i would let it sit for a while and see whats up. Tonight i went out and first time i turned her over all i got was a nice backfire. After that it just turns over but there is nothing, no hesitations to start or anything just turns the motor over.

Any ideas?

Havent gotten up to that yet, was a bit dark after work tonight. Ill check timing marks tomorrow. But i figured that if timing was out, that it wouldnt start period. This seems a bit intermitten. Im parking the car tomorrow to get it ready for its motor when i get it and ill pull the ecu and check to see if it might be leaking or starting too.

the upper timing cover is only 3 10mm bolts and you can tell if it's broken. the starting issues may be a weak belt getting ready to go.
other than that is there a check engine light?

im sure this isnt but just a personal story. when my motor was in the process of crank walking it would do that right at the end. sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldnt.... ### crankwalk and ### crank sensors..good luck on it. do you have any codes?

No codes popping up yet. Everything runs good, aside from bad idle which ive had for about a year now.

Im going to check the small stuff first, plugs, wires, timing. I just needed this motor to make it a little longer, now im struck driving a 78 fiat x19..damn small cars.

Follow up

Took the ecu out, caps didnt seem to be leaking, so I took them up to a local person to have the caps replaced, and he said it looked good. Put the ecu back in and it started up. Again after it warmed up a little, i shut it off, let it sit for a few and then it wouldnt start again. So far

i have tested another cas and power transmitter and still the same thing. Im still leaning towards the ecu still being fried but im clueless right now

dont automaticly assume it has crankwalk, if ur car was built in feb of 92 ur good, if after that then get it checked for crankwalk, check ur fuel pump, and all ur ignition and whatnot, and check ur timing and stuff, it mite just need a serious tune up

Ive got fuel, spark, timing is dead on the nose. Ill get it started again tonight. It only seems to do it if i let it sit after it starts. If i just shut the car off it will fire back up right away.

From the back fire it sounds like maybe your loading up the heads, and then after it sits a while it starts up.
Check your oil and see if its getting fueled.

on my old talon. It would sometimes start and sometimes not start, it was extremely random.
My battery terminals were in real bad need of a cleaning, I guess they were arcing or whatever, after I cleaned them up, I had no issues from that day on. ...... well no starting issues.

not to get off topic, but isnt crankwalk only associated with the 7 bolts that were in 2g's?

I had a similar problem does the car stink link fuel when you try to start it just once or twice. Check your engine coolant temp sensor. Make sure it's the one for the ECU and not the temp guage. Think it's the one with two wires but to check just try unhooking one when the car is warm. Your guage will read 0 if that's the sensor for the dash guage and CEL will come on if it's the ECU sensor.

This is what a buddy said might be the issue. Yeah you an smell crazy gas when I try to start the car. After letting it sit and not trying to start for a few, it will either start, or try to start then die. Ill look for the one for these tomorrow as these may be the culprit. Got a location of the ecu sensor?
