A couple of days ago, my crank pulley seperated on the way home from work. It was at really low speed. I heard some weird noises, even some noises through the exhaust, almost like something came loose under the car, in the rear. I mean in addition to the noice near the engine area (clanging). And all of my dashlight went on, you know, alternatro and what not. But it was still running, so I figured it wasn't the timing belt breaking.

I pulled over immediately (actually had to drive to a nearby parking lot, but less then a 1/4 mile, maybe an eigth of a mile, about a half a block), and it was still running, popped the hood. Noticed that accesory belts were not turning. And yea, I looked down to see the crank pulley had seperated. I turned off the car and had it towed.

Well the next day I started the car, and noticed that it idles at 2000, and if I give it gas, it doesn't really want to rev very easily at all. So I figure that my timing belt skipped or something. I turn off the car, and when I turn it off it kind of makes a "clank" sound.

Based on this description, for those of you with experience with a timing belt slipping, skipping, or whatever, how bad off do you think I am?

The crank pulley seperating doesn't have anything to do with your timing - you're still fine in that area. All your dash lights came on because the alternator stopped turning, thus stopped charging.
The timing belt is attached to the crank sprocket, which is located behind the crank pulley (the pulley actually bolts to it).
I suppose in a far-fetched situation it might cause the timing to jump a tooth if it was a HORRID seperation, but that's just speculation. I'd swap out my crank pulley and then go from there.

did you replace the pulley and put all your belts back on?

my crank pulley split into 2 pieces, threw the alternator/water pump belt off, made the AC belt skip and jam up behind the pulley which stalled the engine. i think that's about as catastrophic as you can get - my motor was fine though.

No I haven't done anything yet. Cause I still need to get a new pulley, and I'm gonna buy all new belts. I think I will just go ahead and to a Tbelt also, waterpump and etc.

But I have seen some horror stories about people where it ate through the timing belt cover, also can cause weird tension on the crank, possibly causing the Tbelt to skip..or somethin like that...?

If you haven't done anything yet, then it's likely it's acting strange because the battery is about dead and the ECU isn't gettin' enough power.

remember, when the belts quit turning so does the water pump....depends on how long it was not turning, but you might have overheated the engine and did some damage from that.....it really dont take much.......
