I just changed all my belts yesterday (except for the balance shaft because I didn't have a the right tools), and now my car sounds like an electric car. I'm not having a problem with power, it's just whiny and it gets louder the more I rev it up. From what I've read so far this could be from the oil sprocket getting turned 360 degrees in the wrong direction, just wondering if that sounds right before I start ordering parts... Thanks.

you put the timing belt cover on all the way?? could be rubbing on that

Say it was the belt rubbing on the cover, how would I fix that? I'm going to pull the top cover off in the morning to see if that does anything or not.

The clearances under that cover are tight and it is common for these covers to "look" like they are properly mounted, but they easily set crooked and rub on the belt. Just loosten up the bolts and wiggle the cover around until you get it off of the belt and you should be good to go. :thumb:

Well, pulling off the top cover didn't change anything, and since I have to pull off all the other belts to get to the cover anyways... I've decided to change the tension pulley, auto tensioner, and harmonic balancer while I'm at it just in case any of those are also the problem. Appreciate the advice, I'll let you know Sat. night if I've got it figured out or not.

OMG I didn't realize those parts would be so expensive! Water pump - $140, Crank pulley - $130... etc. etc. Blew $340 on those a tensioner, couple bolts and stuff... :thumbdown
Guess I should be glad I'm doing it myself.

Well, it was the AC belt rubbing on the timing belt cover. So, I took a grinder to it to make sure the new belt would clear. No more whining noises, thanks guys!
