OK, I just got my car back from a really well known shop that deals with DSM's. I had an o2 housing completely custom made for my 38mm external wastegate. after I brought it back home i notice a small leak at the top of where the o2 hooks up the the new wastegate. I thought nothing of it untill days later i notice pieces of the metal gasket sticking out and almost cut me. I was able to move the wastegate (it was loose). So instead of taking it back to the shop, which is 2 hours away from where i live, i decided to eat the cost and do it myself. its been a bi***. i had to pull the turbo/o2housing/wastegate all off at the same time to get to what i need pull off the gaskets. My question is did it only blow cuz it not tighten properly or could it have been cuz i was running rich and then when i was tunning it with dsm link slightly had it running a little lean at idle? the first pic is the gasket to the input part of the wastgate and the second one is to the release (dumptube)

mine burnt out about a week after having them in. i just took them out and have not had any exhaust leaks of any sort nor did it effect performance.

Mine did the exact same thing. It was because the bolts holding the wastegate weren't tightened down enough, resulting in the wastegate being loose. Needless to say the gaskets blew out after a couple days. All I did was called up Slowboyracing, had then send me a couple pair of new gaskets ($5 a piece from them) and replaced them while tightening the hell outta the wastegate bolts. Problem solved. I don't know why you sould burn up gaskets from running lean/rich, only from having exaust leaks that eventually burn up the gasket. Hope this helps.

The bolts on the exhaust like to stretch when they get hot. If you can get to the bolts, it would be good to warm up the car then tighten them again. Ive had lots of problems with exhaust bolts coming loose, and this has help me the best.

well, i looked at the flange surfaces and they aren't flat. Must have got'n warped from the weld job. I called the shop and they said to hook everything back up and bring it to them and they would take care of me.
