did 14b install but 1 problem

ok this weekend me and my bud did the 14b swap on my 2g talon.. Everything went as good as its gonna go on the install..The 14b is rebuilt with no shaft play..I took it for a spin and when i give it boost in 1st and 2nd gear the turbo makes this ungodly Screaming noise.. But then after i put it in 3rd gear and boost it it goes away... Then after that it doesnt do it anymore. It only does it before 3rd gear.. but then after i boost it in 3rd then go back to 2nd gear it doesnt do it... You get it??? i hope im not being to confusing...please help me.. id hate to ruin somethin...Thank you

Oh and by the way my MBC is set at 15lbs
 
is it kind of a whine? if the turbo is ported it might whine a little. otherwise i have no idea. i too did the 14b swap and it was well worth it.

and yes the this is really ported out... im satisfied with it.. everything is workin good just makin that loud hella noise
 
i did that before the first startup.. i guess ill try it again and see if that helps..
 
hey did u figure out why your turbo is whining? My 14B just started whistling today real loud when i hit boost it sounds almost like the superchargers on the cobras and lightnings just more of a whistle. I hav no idea whats goin on. Any suggestions on what to check are appreciated.

ps: a new turbine housing was just installed 3 days ago by me and a friend cause the other one was too ported and allowed the exhaust to go thru the dump at all times.
 
My friend had the same problem after putting in a new 14b on his talon it sounded more like a supercharger than a turbo he told me he had a boost leak on the lower intercooler pipe after he fixed the leak the car sounded normal
 
i havent figured it out yet. im gonna check more on to it this weekend... But yeah it sounds like a damn supercharger sometimes.. The damn turbo is brand new with no shaft play too.. Who knows.. ill try and figure this out over the weekend
 
If you have the time and resources, remove the turbo and check everything out again. Who did the rebuild? Was it balanced afterwards?

It could be a number of things. Sometimes if something gets lodged in front of the compressor, it'll create some sort of noise when air flows past it really quick.

But if boost holds steady, your A/F's fall within safe readings, knock is under control, then you should be fine.
 
Turbo Trix did the rebuild supposedly. Evything seemed up to par with the turbo.. But your right it could be a number of things.. As far as holding boost and A/F and know.. I hooked my car up to a logger and eeverything was pretty good.. Holds boost great.. Im gonna test for boost leaks this weekend. Ill let everyone know what goes on. Thanks for eveyones responses keep em comin. Might help out more poeple :dsm:
 
Have you checked for boost leaks.
Was it balanced??? Clipped?? Rebuilt by someone reputable??
A dry startup won't cause that...
 
Orso - I got a quick question for you. On a 1G w/ a 14B, it appears that there is a vac. line that runs from the wastegate actunator to the boost contorller, and then from the boost controller to the nipple on the stock j-pipe. I'm putting a 14B on my 2G and I'm using a Dejon Tool j-pipe, but there is no vac. nipple. Where did you run your other vac. line?

nevermind, I found it. The BOV vac line..... sorry for the dumb question....
 
well did some trial and error crap this weekend and checked bout everything... NO shaft play... no oil where it shouldnt be.. still the same wierd noise... although its not doin it nearly as much if at all anymore so im gonna give it time and see what happens..
 
Last night, I raced an evo 8 with exhaust and boost controller running 19 psi and reflashed ecu and the first time i beat him by a car up to about 100mph and the second time he beat me by about a car lenght off the launch and by the time we hit about 100 i was right at his fender. Also raced a 90 gsx with exhaust and boost controller and beat him by 2 cars. His excuse was that i am running 17psi and he is running 15psi. Anyways after this beating my turbo stopped whining and it boosts fine. I have no idea what fixed it but i hope it is fixed for good. You done with the 14b install yet 99gst racer? you will definitely feel a difference.
 
i def feel a difference, no doubt about that.. im takin it to the track on friday.. i ran a 14.22 with a 2.0 60ft time with the T-25.. Now im launchin a heck of a lot better with the 14b. So im hopin to hit the very high 13's.. ill keep ya posted though

Yeah, I got it all installed, but I'm still waiting for the WG actunator to come in the mail. Ohh, and I have to throw the radiator back in. My MBC might be broke, but I hope it isnt. Our goal is to have it running by Thursday night. I'll probably post results on Friday morning. Let hope for the best......

PS. - Damn you guys with your good track times with AWD. :mad: :p :laugh: I wish I had traction... :cry:
 
glad to see things went good for ya 99gstracer.. i read your other post.. Lemme know how it runs..As for this noise.. The more i drive it the less i hear it so idc.. If the 14b goes ill buy another one, no big deal... :thumb:

I ran the 13.6 at 18psi but it was suppose to be a baseline pass but i ended up not getting another run cause Atco was so packed. I beleive dat a low 13 is possible specially now dat i have a fmic. My 60 foot was 1.9.
