I took my car to satan cause i didnt have time to mess with it.Anyway they said my isc was bad and that my ecu was throwing a bunch of codes and that the ecu was fried. The car still runs and i havent picked up the car yet,but i told them just to leave it and im coming to get the car.I purchased a new isc and have a new socketed ecu that i can put in.So has anyone heard of this happening? They said my isc was way out of spec.So i guess when i pick up the car is could unplug the isc and reset the ecu and should be able to drive home okay right? My car still runs and everything but they said its fried cause it throws codes.Well, this is a 6bolt swap with the egr system removed so im not sure if the ecu can be half fried and still run the car or what.I know it will throw some codes though"random misfire ,egr, etc"I dont trust them so any inputs on this are appreciated. Thanks

Unless the ISC shorted out and consequentially shorted the ECU, I doubt it would have done any damage. "Way out of spec" and "Major electrical short" are two very different things.

Agreed, but it really doesn't take a fully shorted ISC to exceed the current specs on the M5269L drivers Mitsu used. They are only rated for 2A 10ms 10% duty cycle pulses max. Anything below 10 ohms on a coil would be a problem. Just check yours when you pull it.

Most of the bad ISCs I've seen went up in resistance but they do short and when they do it takes out the drivers in the ECU.

####....i just got my ECU repaired from CAP damage last month, the yesterday tested my ISC to diagnose my idle surge....no continuity between the lower conter pin and lower right side pin....so much for buying the MAFT i was just about to click order on.

I was told the same thing from a reputable sho in my area they said it fry my bad isc would fry my ecu. Still have a bad ISC and that was a over a year ago...

An open winding won't damage the ECU. It's the shorted ones that fry the drivers.

I usually see ISC's with only one or two bad winding. The are usually in the same coil so if you can come up with two bad ISC's you can use the good coil in one to replace the bad coil in another.

Just to confirm, my bad (shorted) ISC blew IC's on my ECU.

P.S. Thanks Steve, car still is running great! :thumb:
