Hey guys, my 97 NT eclipse is smoking pretty bad. From what I can tell, it's mainly a white smoke during idle. no 100% sure but it doesn't seem to smoke as much when I'm driving. There's actually a layer of oil around the tip of the exhaust. I did a compression test a little less than a month ago and the numbers were 210-190-215-220. Not sure if it's a hg leak but the coolant seems pretty clean, no signs of oil there. The engine does seem to be burning oil pretty fast, cause I just changed my oil two weeks ago, and know it's a little less than the minimum mark on the dipstick.

What else can i check to determine what's wrong?

white smoke usually doesnt indicate burning of oil. it would be blue smoke rather.

anywayz, check your cooling system. check the coolant reservoir level. do a visual

check under the hood to see if you see stains. also when the head

gasket is blown, you'll see white smoke from the exhaust cuz of the antifreeze burning in

the chamber. try this~

Remove one of the sparkplugs and the radiator cap.

Fill the radiator and then push some air into the sparkplug hole (get a good seal in case a

valve is open). Repeat with all the cylinders and watch for air bubbles coming up into the

radiator. If bubbles come up or fluid is pumped out, the head gasket is blown
