Hey I put a 1990 working motor jdm in a 91 awd gsx. every thing is hooked up but the car won't start. The starter turns the motor but it won't start. So I investigated what I thought it was. First I checked the fuel pump relay it was good and was working then I also checked the fuel pump it was also working. Then I went and basically went down the line to the injectors to see if they were shooting fuel. and I did a visual confirmation and saw them spraying fuel. Looked up the wire colors for the 90 cam angle sensor wire up to the 91 harness deal. Did that right. Checked it twice. Then I checked the 91 coil pack to see if I had it set up 4123 fire order. yea that was right and I checked for sparks and there is spark. so I also checked for compression and there is good compression in all the cylinders.. Im using a 90 ecu so I swapped pins 14 and 6 . I can't think of anything I could have missed I got the coil pack and the transister pack. I'm gunna take my logger out there tomorrow and see what it says and whats going on but does any body have any idea why a motor won't start if it has compression , spark , sprays fuel, fuel pump works , turns over etc . If im mising anything with putting a 90 motor in a 91 car please let me know.

Sorry about any errors in my post I proof read it I'm usually the most uneducated typer on here trying to make it easy. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well my friend called me and gave me the only thing the car was reading as an error on the car was a coolant temperature sensor error saying it was bad. I don't know if that will help.

Well, you're getting fuel and you're getting spark; it should start up. Are you sure you put gasoline in there? If so, is it any good? My car actually had a bad gas tank before I put my motor in; there were spots of rust in it and there was mud and sut in there also. I don't know how long the car was down, but it's something to check out anyway. Does the car have any kind of firing when you try to start it up? If the car's firing order is out of whack, it won't start up, but it'll backfire a bit. What happens when you try to start it? We need some more details on this part.

It shouldn't hinder start-up, but did you put a '90 ECU in there, too?

yea the gas is good in there checked it at the fuel rail and the car has only been sitting for 3 weeks with gas in the tank. I put the 90 ecu in there with the 90 motor and I switched the wires 14 and 6 so it would work properly the only error or thing not working is the coolant temperature sensor. saysits bad. ive read that that might cause a no start situation as a feature for protecting your motor and at the same time ive heard it from my friend dave who is pretty knowledgeable. he said that it was one or two years of cars that did that. he was pretty sure it was 1990 which would make sense becuase this is a 1990 ecu with a 1990 motor thru a 91 harness. which would make the car wireing a 9o not a 91 right. any ways im going to check the coolant temp sensor thing wireing to the sensor its self and replace it all

hahahaha........not meaning to laugh at you but my boy had the same prob like 3 weeks ao when we put his car back together.....it was his timing.....it ended up being set to where both exhaust and intake vlaves where opening and closing at the same time.....check that and if it dont work trash the JDM motor and get a rebuilt USDM

It's most likely something simple.

If there were anything like no start protection, it would cut off the fuel supply to the engine. But, you're getting fuel out of the injectors you said, so that's not the problem. If anything, it would just make it idle and run funny.

How does it sound when you turn it over?

His compression test was fine.

 uhhh yea too slow you are pretty slow and apparently cant read. i didnt dismantle the motor i swapped it my jdm motor is like 3 weeks old. BUt imy car started
we just randomly decided to spray sum carb cleaner in the intake and it started right up
