Calgary,
ive taken various transmisison of, (honda, Acura, VW) so i decided to take my gsx's tranny off to replace the clutch.
Ive never had so many problems while doin it.
first the passanger axle came apart, one of the housings (the far one) is still in the tranny.
Then, theres a huge gap in between the tranny and the block, but it woulnt not come off, due to the space required for the tranny to come down is too small. The tranny is hitting one of its corners against the body of the car.
Decided that the drive axle needed to come off. it seemed like the only thing holding the tranny to the block or anything touching the tranny, was the driver axle, so theres two 14mm screws holding a bracket that is part of the axle itself, afer a couple of hours of trying to get to them...they are still on.

Am i doin the right thing? am i suppose to take both axles in order to take the tranny off? am i missing another part that needs to come off?

HEEEELP!

Ive done this plent of times.

First remove all the stuff up top...battery, slave cylinder, where it connects to tranny. Drain fluid. All pipes, intercooler, intake, blah blah.

Remove tranny mount.
Go under remove slave cylinder from the tranny
Take out both axles, what i do is drop the hub assembly down and yank them out that way...I dont even touch the axle nuts.
Drop down the downpipe. Best if u take it off the car compltely.
Now work at the t-case bolts, 5 of them. Kind of tough but there easy to crank loose with a mallet. Just hit the end of the wrnech and theyll pop loose.
Next, bell housing bolts have to be removed. I forget exactly how many there are but im gonna say like 6 or 7.
Make sure the 2 bracket supports are off, theres one long one that goes from the front of the car to the back, but its located right under the tranny, bout 3 feet long. There is also a little triangular one ill call it, not quite triangular but ull see it, has like 5, 14 or 15mm bolts.

After thats all done, wiggle the tranny loose, remmeber its heavy, so make sure there is a rolling floor jack under the car. Drop it on that lower the jack, it might have to be wiggled and manuevored to come all the way down.

Putting it back in is just as easy, well not easy, its a *$&$^ to get it in the car...but its possible to do it without a lift and all that, seeing as ive done it before and my carright now has the tranny outin the driveway.

Have fun dont curse too much and if ur replaceing the clutch...
remember
TORQUE EVERYTHING TO SPEC AND USE LOCTITE(RED)

on the first install on my car i iddnt use loctite cause a "mechanic" said i didnt have too...well it shook loose and i had to do it again.
