I just rebuilt my motor with stock internals and i got it in the car, wired up, and filled with fluids. After everything was hooked up, i turned the motor over with no plugs to get everthing lubricated and such. The motor turned 6 times with the battery until it died( remember i am turning the motor with no spark plugs), then i hooked the jump box to the batttery and it turned 2 more times and dies again. I then see electrical smoke coming up through the throttle bodie area. I check all the grounds on the car, and they were grounded. The starter is hooked up right, and the ground wire for the starter is screwed into the upper most starter bolt on the tranny where it should be. I looked over the wiring harness and everything is hooked up to the correct plug to the best of my knowlegde. I was told that i might be arcing somewhere. Keep in mind that all i was trying to do was to turn the motor to get the fluids through the system.

am i shorting out somewhere or what?

Check the 30 amp fuse to the ignition switch under the hood to make sure you didn't blow it. Also check the wires for cracks where they could be grounding out on other metal and not sending their proper charge.
