Hey guys.. I seem to be having a problem with my 91 gsx. I recently put it all back together after a few bent valves and I can't get the car started. It will turn over just like a normal starting car should, but it wont catch and start. We have triple checked everything that I know of and the timing is set correctly. I can try to adjust the cam angle sensor from end to end and no change at all. Also, we pulled the gas line off the fpr and it has plenty of pressure, we pulled the plugs and the car is getting plenty of spark as well. So, it should run right? spark, fuel, timing.. thats all thats needed. The only thing I can come up with is that the ignition timing might not be right on. Any suggestions? I've tried everything I know of, so hopefully someone can give me a few pointers.

I had the exact same problem. Mine is a 90, but it might be the same thing, b/c I tore mine all apart once. There are like twe pugs/connectors towards the top left of the engine bay, and you can plug them into the wrong ones. I had that problem, and once I switched them around, started right up. Might wanna check thate out. Although, I forget what year it is, but they eventually switch over, and there is only one plug/connector up there, so there isn't that problem anymore. Check it out. Hope this helped. (The inside of the plugs are purple, hope you know which ones I'm talking about)

mine did the same thing when my timing belt skipped a tooth, do a leakdown test, or if you're not comfortable doing one yourself, have a mechanic do it, any good mechanic should be able to do it.

It just turns over with nothing happening but it spinning? No pops, blokes, spits? Sounds like a timing issue but I could be mistaken.

I need a better symptom description.

Right, it turns over, spinning fine.. no bogging, no sputtering, pops, nothing.. the cam timing is right, the only other thing i can think of is ignition timing.. should I test the connections on the injectors?

I'm not sure which connections your talking about.. I assume as you say top left, that the plugs are on the passenger side of the motor if your looking at it? Also, are they on the top left towards the rear or front of the engine.. what do they connect to?

First recheck the timming of the t-belat and of the cas .

From there make shure the water temp sensor plug is good and pluged in . THis will cause a no start . :thumb:

this will cause a no start?? thats nuts. I assume this sensor is on the t-stat housing? There are 2 or 3 i believe.. when I was taking it apart, all the wires in all the connections came loose.. so, none are hooked up, I dont even have the connections for them.. How do I fix this??

Like I said, all my plugs aer fallen off.. Does anyone know what colot the two wires that go to that plug?

I don't know the colors.

But~

The single wire, goes to the temperature sending unit. Driver side plug on the lower goose.

If you don't have a AC sending unit in the top goose neck, the other two wires are for the coolant sending unit. If they don't work 1 way, try the other, it shouldn't short out.

You should try to ground out the timing plug behind the battery, so you can bypass the coolant temp, to get your car running.

As far as I know about that sensor, it just maps a different advance/retard for the temp. And grounding out the plug will allow you to force the computer into 5* regardless of throttle or temp.

Ok, so where is this timing plug? I know you say its behind the battery.. but where? On the firewall, somewhere close? Maybe you can describe it to me? Sorry to be so ignorant, but I have never heard anything about or seen anything on the timing plug.

Well, I made all new conections for the coolant temp sensors and plugged them all in, no start, so I switched the wires to see if they were backwards, no start.. Next, I found that timing plug, got some aligator clips and grounded it to the battery, tried to start it, no go.. GRRR!!! I can't figure out whats wrong with my car!!!!!!
