OK, here's what's up. My Buddy has a 91 Laser RS Turbo. Yesterday he was driving and heard a belt squealing, so he pulled over and checked it out. It had appeared as though has A/C compressor had locked up and was shredding the belt. But, once the belt finally popped he went to check the compressor and it spun freely, as did the idler pulley. So he called me and we jacked it up and checked out the underside. This is where it gets weird. The crank pulley looks like it has backed itself into the timing cover. It is cutting into the plastic on the cover and the pulley looks like its almost an inch away from being aligned with all the other pulleys. Yet, the clutch acts fine, and there are no noticable differences in drivability or power. What in God's name could it be? Has the crank walked, (wouldn't the clutch act funny, and doesn't the crank pull slightly out of the block with crankwalk instead of pushing in?), or what. Thats what I would of guessed, but with it running the same as before it makes no sense. Please help us as this is his only mode of transportation and I don't want to have to drive him around everyday.
