my car has about 83k miles on it and i noticed it seems to be burning oil... about a quart every 2300 miles. i was afraid that i might have miscalculated the time when i was supposed to change my oil so i went ahead and changed it anyway. it was dirty, but it seemed to have a little life left in it. anyhow, while under the car i looked up at my turbo and it seems to have a bunch of burt looking oil on the outlet side of the turbo. it was all spewed out all over my greddy ic pipe. i would take it off but its too dark to look at now. is there anything else i should do before i take it over to the dealership for warranty work? do you think they will give me a new/refurb t25 or will the warranty company have them throw on a t28? should i still drive the car? i dont notice any major difference in power, but the turbo may have been on its way out since i bought the thing a few months ago, so i dont know. should i even bother checking for shaft play? thanks in advance.

I would check for shaft play. My guess is a bad oil seal. When my T-25 went out, it burned lots of oil too, but I also had MAD shaft play. If only you could see how bad it was on my car. I could move it almost 3/4 of an inch both up/down and side to side. If you just have a bad oil seal, it might cause it to spew oil all through your intake system. I know mine did, and when I put my new Evo turbo on, all that freshly boosted air picked up all the oil in my intake and coated my GM MAF as well as spewing out my BOV. It made for a huge mess, that might be your problem.

ok, so i checked for shaft play and it didnt seem to move at all. however, there was a ton of oil on the fan blades. it seems like i have a huge mess in my intake tract, i dont even wanna look though.

over the past few days i think ive been loosing power to, and my turbo seems to have some trouble spooling and it loses boost around 5800 rpms. i think i may just take it to the dealer.

Do you have extended warranty? My car is newer than yours and my warranty expired last year.

i bought the car used at 73k miles from a dealership and i got a pretty decent deal, and i got a warranty that is good for 20k miles or 2 years. they put down on the record that i bought the car at 80k miles though so that the warranty is good until 100k miles ;)
the warranty was $2200, but so far ive alredy gotten brand new lifters, installed. i might get a new turbo, tranny, transfercase, and maybe an engine before this thing is up, if i play my cards right. :D

ill go in there tomorrow and show them the mess that is my intake tract and tell them i need this car fixed pronto. this could be the reason i always thought my car was so slow, and also the reason i ran a 14.9 at the track.

i know when my stocker went if you slam on it and see all smoke coming out tail pipe then chances are its gone. Also a 97 with no shaft play ? you have to have some

Yea, grab the center shaft and move it up and down, and see if it moves in and out as well.

As for the oil in your intake, mine blew alot of smoke as well. Check that.

Also, take the hose off of your BOV and see if oil is spraying out of there as well. That would tell you if its going through the head of your engine and burning up. I had few inches of oil in my intercooler as well, so after it gets fixed, you will need to clean it out with paint thinner or gas.

Wow so when your turbo is going out, you will have oil all over pretty much huh? :talon:
