Under a mild acceleration 98 GST m/t will build boost but will not accelerate properly. The hesitation happens intermittantly. There is no stalling, no stumble and no check engine light. The problem is only infirst gear and some times in second if i stay on it. I looked at scan data and all seems normal. I am curious if this is a common problem or if any one has a fix. I checked IATN (international automotive technicians network) and another site but no listings. I am a tech and just looking for ideas. any help is appreciated. thanks :dsm:
 
check for boost leaks. check your vacuum hoses for rips are cracks.. You would be surprised at what kind of problems a few cracked vacuum lines could cause..

If you stay on the trottle when it does that the car goes no where... it's so odd!!

i ran into the same problem, i took it to the mitsubishi dealer the said i had a crack in the underside of the exhaust side of the turbo which is made of cast iron and is pretty common to crack, worst casenerio new turbo, check for leaks first, i was havin the exact same hesitation problems only in first too.

I have a the same problem. It's intermitant and I only found the problem when I started to use my datalogger. I get phantom knock from my lifters. You won't be able to see knock counts on a 2G but your timing will drop like a rock same as mine does low teens. Then the car will just run like crap and flooring it only makes the turbo boost and run just as crappy. Letting off on the gas real quick and then getting back down on it once or twice usually clears it up for me. It's a ghetto fix till I can buy some new lifters.
 
to check for exhaust leaks:

get a leakdown tester and put it in any of your spark plug holes.
Find a way to cover your exhaust tip up so that it doesn't leak (i just duct tape the hell out of it)
Turn the engine over manually until the exhaust valve of the cylinder you're using is open.
Send about 50 psi through the leakdown tester and you will be able to hear your exhaust leaks.
