I am looking at getting a GSX and went to a dealership earlier on today. The car is in overall good shape except this ticking and vibration. I asked him about it and he said they just had the head reconditioned/rebuilt and didn't have time to drive it enough. He said it was normal for heads to click or tick for a few hundred miles after install of new head. Is this true? Or is the car fvcked.

I'll tell you right now I am no expert on Mitsubishi's but I do have some fair knowledge of cars. The ticking may be the oil lifters. My Mazda 4 cyl has hydraulic lifters and when they were not working correctly they would make a ticking noise. I replaced them and the ticking went away

Yea agreed with above as long as thats the sound you are hearing. Lifters to tend to tick, and its something that can be replaced. I know a majority of us are still driving around with ticking lifters.

So it really isn't that big of a problem? It wont lead to anything much bigger? I plan on replacing the timing belt, and put new cams in. Might as well replace them while Im at it. So a relatively simple issue?

Lifter tick is a pain in the a$$ for almost all DSM owners. I lived with it for almost a year before finally replacing them with 3rd gen revised. It mostly happens to 1G, but also plagues 2G as well.

After you drive the car a bit, and it's warmed up, does it stop ticking?
