Only passenger side radiator fan comes on during idling.Is this normal?

Does the drivers side fan come on only when temps get a lot hotter or something? I just did the 6bolt swap and dont remember if both fans are supposed to come on or not. Onlt passenger side is working wheni let it sit there and run.

That would be normal on mine until you turn the AC on.

On a 1g, the passenger's side fan should only come on when the temp is high enough to trip the radiator temperature sensor. I think it's around 80C or something like that.

That is the correct! The second fan is for the a/c and should come on at a preset temp controlled by the ECU.

I bought the Mitsu shop manuals ($80) and with my electrical background, I re-wired the fans to be on at all times.

Advantages:
- Coolant Temp runs 20 - 40 degrees cooler here in hot butt ft.lauderdale, during city driving.

- Coolant temp is "normal" during highway driving as indicated by the water temp gauge.

Disadvantage;
- Car takes longer to warm up.

I have had it like this for a little over a year now and the fans are still running cool.

From the factory, the fans are wired to "draw" air through the radiator to aid in cooling. Both fans now "draws" air when the engine is running and off when the ACC position.

I recommend the fan to be wired "always on" if you have fmic and/or larger turbo.
