Well my 96 GS non-tubro starting getting hot. It would go up to about 2/3 slowly during stop and go traffic. When I would start to get moving it would slowly cool down. My car also would blow white smoke out of the exhaust when it was idled at a slant. I didnt notice any smoke under acceleration or under idle on a flat surface.
Well one day I lost a lot of coolant after driving and the car was blowing a lot of white smoke. So I took the car in and they replaced the head gasket, thermostat, timing belt and a few other misc. gaskets with the head. Well the car is back and still smoking. There arent any traces of oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil that are visible to my eye. The car is also still running hot in stop and go.
The head gasket that was replaced was bad. The water jackets were broken through and there was little traces of collant leaking into the combustion chamber.
Now my question is what could be the problem? I obviously only fixed one of the problems. The system has been flushed and new coolant was put in along with a fresh oil change.
Could this be a problem with a coolant line that runs through the intake mani or some other nearby line? Its the only thing I have been able to think up.
I didnt replace the water pump which I probably should have but Im pretty sure that could not be the culprit. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
