I bought a used motor for my 1990 laser rs .. I put it in and started it up .. it only ran on 2 cylinders soo i did a compression test on it and got 130 130 and 0 0 ... i took the head off and found i had 4 bent valves 2 intake valves in cylinder #1 and 2 intake valves on cylinder #2 ... You could see where the others had hit the pistons barely but didnt bend the vavles.

Question is .. could i have had the timing off enough when i set it to where the intake valves would hit the pistons (cuz i changed the timing belt) and still have it run on the 2 cylinders that didnt have bent valves or did i but the used motor with bent valves and just learn the hard way about buyin used crap?

There's really no way to tell now, is there? How confident are you that you did the timing belts right?

All kind of moot though, now you have another fix to do to fix the fix you're fixed with.

well i lined up the to white marks on the cams and made sure # 1 was at top dead center .. is there anything i forgot ?

The dowels were up yes ... and it ran ok just minus 2 cylinders thats y im thinkin i got it wiht already bent valves
