Round Rock,
On my old 96 GST that I sold the person that is now driving said
that they were driving home on mopac, then the tachometer went to 0,quit accelerating so they pulled off onto the shoulder and the car died. I went over to take a look at it today and I can get the car to crank but it just will not start. Checked all fuses and none were blown, the car wouldn't start with a jump either so I know the battery & alternator are ok. I undid the supply to the fuel rail and put it into a cup, sure enough I'm getting fuel. I then took off the top timing cover and looked at both sprockets. The exhaust is a couple teeth off from where the intake mark is. What could have caused this? So far maybe a bad crank pulley / harmonic balancer seperation but that's all that I can thinkg of, (i checked it's not seperated at the moment). How do I adjust the timing back to where it needs to be? Do I need to take the entire assembly off again? What could have caused this?

Is the balance shaft belt still intact? Could have seized or the belt could have broke and got caught up in your timing belt. Causing it to jump. Rule of thumb. If you ever think your car has jumped timing. DONT try to recrank it. Could do more damage. Resulting in more things to replace. :thumb:
