Calgary,
Ok, so I'm just driving at a normal person's pace, when, over my stereo, I think I hear some major noise, like I'm driving over tin cans or something(valves--pistons)...and my car dies.

I try to crank it over, and it pretty much sounds like ZERO compression, the starter is just a spinnin er. So yadda, yadda yadda, tow truck, etc.

I get it home pop the top timing belt cover and it's intact, in not bad condition. So I'm like, huh? I crank over the engine again, same thing, no compression, but the belt is driving those cam gears no problem.

So, what's your take on what happened? I wasn't accelerating, hardly at ALL, so I'm wondering, did it skip some teeth? Did the balance belt snap and get tangled up with the timing belt? If this were to happen, would it still spin nicely after all's said and done?

OR, is it a matter of detonation...broken rod/piston?---> If this were the case though, wouldn't I have some compression on the other 3 cylinders?

AND, to save myself a post, if it was the T belt, and I'm screwed for valves, what(brand) should I buy, and what will I have to buy: Valves, valve guides? Valve seals? Pistons and Rings?

Thanks for everything guys, as always.

It sounds like the timing belt has broken & yes, the valves crashed into the pistons. Pull off your top timing belt cover & see if the belt is broken & if not, do the timing marks on the valve cams line up?

K guys, The timing belt is FINE. It still spins fine, i took the cover off and checked it. I don't know, it may have skipped, but the tension is fine too?

I couldn't check the Balance belt yet.

I walked by the car today, and there was a puddle of coolant on the ground....could this indicate a head gasket blown? I have no idea now? Maybe it was just incidental though?
