Hi: My Big16G turbo just ate the hose coupler ( the short piece of hose that is sandwiched in between the compressor inlet and the intake pipe inlet hose ).
I think this is install mistake on my part, most likely. I probably did not have the spacer all the way into the compressor inlet.
So, yeah, one day I come home from work, and the turbo stopped making boost.
When I pulled the inlet pipe out, there is a small rubber piece that got stuck on the compressor wheel. I was able to pull the small rubber piece out. I also removed my intercooler and piping, and removed all the small rubber pieces! Yikes!
I'm glad that the intercooler seems to catch it all, as I don't see any rubber piece of my GM MAF ( blow through ).
So, anyway, the compressor wheel now spins fine by hand. Also, at idle it is fine.
However, if I rev it ( even at idle ), it will start making a loud whining sound.
What do you guys think ? Can a compressor wheel get bent from just a flimsy rubber piece ? What else can be broken on the turbo ? ( FYI, I took out the compressor inlet and outlet pipe, and narrowed down the noise to be coming from the turbo. It's nice running in blow through setup, because you can unhook the turbo completely and it still runs )
Is it worth rebuilding my 16G ? It is ported and clipped already.

But, thinking back, I might have not slide it all the way inside the lip on the compressor housing ( the outside part ).
