I pulled into the car wash, and noticed a ticking..put up the hood and started feeling around for where it may be comming from.. seemed to be near the left side of the valve cover. after setting idle for a fewminutes it went away suddenly?

ITs a 93 Laser RS 2.0 manual

Thank you for your help

PS: Dont hate on LASERS..................................LOL :p

What kind of oil was used last time you changed or had it changed?? Could be too thick. Then again, you have a n/t so I could be wrong. I'm not too familiar w/ those. Could be a collapsed lifter or something like that also.

I just bopught it a few weeks ago, the last record was about 1oo miles ago the mechanic put 10-30 in it. Any one have any suggestions as to what I should switch for??????????????

Sounds to me like lifter tick, is there any way you could make a recording so we could be sure? BTW, TSi90Awd, for 1G N/As, the engine is pretty much the same as the turbo models, except for higher compression and something with the knock sensor.

Im gonna take off the valve cover tommorrow... What am I looking for in order to diagnose lifter Tick? or the "collapsed valve"? Any suggestions on oil type?? temp here in michigan is between 60-90*..............HOw much can i expect to pay if I do have lifter tick?

If it were a collapsed lifter it wouldn't go away. As for fixing lifter tick you can get new lifters and replace them....not cheap or fast.

as defiant has said there is a good fix for lifter tick. It is a nice loud radio...works for me :D

I had the lifter tick and put in lighter oil and it went away. I'd try that before you start screwing w/ the head. Who knows, you may get lucky and it goes away??

I got a lifter tick problem as well. Sometimes it gets so bad that i get 43 counts of knock cruisin. I pulled out some of the lifters and i couldn't see anything wrong with them. I even noticed that they are the new "revised" lifters as well. The car stops knockin after like an hour of cruising..........

I'm running castrol gtx 2050. So i'm gonna try a 1030 and some riselone engine treatment and maybe it will go away. I'm due for an oil change anyways. In fact, im gonna go do that right now, so peace out! :thumb:
