This coming Sunday my father has the day off, and he being much more mechanically knowledgable than I, he's going to help me get my car running properly. So I'd like to ask you all if you could suggest a few things for us to look for, or take note of.
Car: 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD.
Motor: 1991+ JDM 6 bolt. 150 compression on all four cylinders - Longblock.
I have swapped the JDM CAS, thermostat elbow, throttle body and coil with 90 USDM parts.
Problems:
- Tachometer doesn't work. I have replaced the stock USDM coil with another, as the coil that came with the motor was for a '91 up model, and wasn't compatible with my '90 wiring. I'm guessing I have a busted wire in the harness. Any thoughts?
- Idle is perfect, but when I depress the gas the engine loses all power and nearly dies. If I give it enough gas, it'll bog as if to die, then pick right up and run strong. I have no idea what could be causing this.
- My radiator fan doesn't kick in when it's supposed to. I've tested the motor and all fuses, and they check out fine. I'm stumped here as well. I'm thinking of just re-wiring the thing so it'll start up when I turn over the motor.
- This last one isn't so much a problem, other than a preferance. The motor I have in there came with a Cyclone intake (unfortunately), and the butterflies won't work without the JDM ECU. However, there are manual vacuum setups I could utilize to get these buggers to open and close appropriately, but is it worth it? My '90 USDM Inake Manifold has been outside under a tarp for about a year or more now. What'cha think I should do here?
MANY, many thanks to anyone who can answer these for me.
