I have a 1g Talon with a ported 14b and it has started making a quiet howling sound. It usually only happens when I give it enough gas to get to 0psi, but it also happens under vacuum (maybe 5-0 in hg.) It's kind of hard to explain... Imagine you were trying to make a very low whistling noise. As I add gas, the sound gets higher pitched, and when I take my foot off the accelerator, the sound gets lower. Is my turbo dying? Last time I checked, there was no shaft play and everything seemed fine. Is there anything else that could be causing this odd howling sound? Thanks.

1. Don't bump - it ain't allowed around here.

2. As for your question, have you checked for leaks in your intake system? Usually any strange noise in the system is a leak - will it boost past 0 at all?

Yes, it will boost past 0psi just fine... It is most audible at lower rpms (1500-2500) where pushing on the accelerator would tend to bog down the engine.

Sorry about the bump...

I checked the turbo for shaft play... There's none at all.

The sound only happens when I press lightly and slowly on the gas (for example, going from 12% throttle to 18% throttle and back).

[offtopic]Thanks OMG It's the muffler that came with the Buschur 2.5" turboback - nothing too outrageous, and it sounds great. I've been considering upgrading to a 3" if I can keep it from getting too much louder, just for the extra spoolup. [/offtopic]

CoSpeed: Aside from the sound, are you having any problems? Like, do you get hesitation or anything? If the car's driving fine, I wouldn't really worry about it. Did you check for intake leaks? (I'd asked about that, but you never mentioned if you checked it) Its possible you have some kind of vacuum leak, but once you give it enough throttle to push it into boost, the leak is sealed up.

kinda off topic, but now that you say that hokiedsm i think that could be my problem. when i am accelerating at part throttle when i get into higher rpms, like 5000 about my BOV pops open, but then if i get on it then all is fine, like the bov closed back up. Think if i replace the vacuum hose going to the BOV that could fix it?
