Hello all, i'm new to DSM's and this board. I bought a 1995 GST with 76k on it this past Thursday. Well the guy said there were no leaks but i noticed a coolant smell after running the car but nothing was on the ground after the 2 different test drives i gave it. Well i noticed a day after i got it that coolant is leaking and quite a bit. It seems like it's right above the oil filter at the corner of the timing cover and block, but could be coming from above that. I looked at it from the top and didn't see jack. Just underneath. Nice thing i guess is the car runs cool and the overflow tank stays full. The guy had the dealership replace the timing belt but not the water pump. Any common issues with coolant leaks? I did a search and didn't look like there was but really at a loss what to look for. I'm used to v8's and how easy they are to work on and find stuff. Thanks for any tips.

Sounds like the water pump area. I had a couple leaks crop up on me but that was due to old radiator hoses, just replaced them and it went away. Ultimately, if it's leaking quite a bit, the coolant will eventually run out, obviously. When I bought my 97 GST, I changed my timing belt and water pump right away, even though the girl said she had the timing belt replaced...

2G Timing Belt VFAQ

As for V8's being easier to work on... Personally, I like changing my plugs/wires in 20 minutes.

Shitty, well it looks like it's right around the water pump area. Figures, I wish the guy would have had the pump replaced when he did the timing belt, well i guess i'll have to take that front cover off this weekend and look at it, if that's the case i'll put another timing belt in it. Might take the balancer shaft off too. Oh and yeah it's nice being able to change the plugs so easily ;)
