is my tranny about to go?

ok, im concerned my tranny is about to go and im going to the track next wednesday and id like to make sure its not going to blow while im 2 hours away from home...

anyhow, i drive my car relatively easily and rarely drive it hard. over the past month i think ive driven my car hard a total of 4 times. 3/4 times it has had a hard time going into 3rd above 5500 rpms. tonight was the 4th time i drove it hard and when i went to put it into 3rd it made the horrible grinding noise that no one wants to hear ever.

can someone please tell me what is most likely wrong with my tranny? should i just take it into have it fixed under the warranty? thanks.

update... i drove it again this morning and it felt fine. it wasnt a particularly spirited run, but it didnt feel like anything was broken. its fricken weird.

also last night when i went for 3rd and it grinded, i definately had my clutch all the way in as far as it would go, but i think these stupid pedal covers might be f-ing shit up, so ill take them off. i just put them on like 2 days ago though :-/

ok, i will try that. what fluid would you recommend? where is the drain and the filler on the tranny? i only looked quickly, but i couldnt see them. thanks.

A lot of people recommend GM sycromesh, I used royal purple 75w 80 or whatever the manual specified. I believe there is a VFAQ ( www.vfaq.com ) regarding tranny fluid replacement I don't remember exactly where they are, they are quite obvious bolts tho. If you still are unable to find them let me know, I'll be under the hood of my DSM tommorow so I can snap a quick picture.

How does your clutch pedal feel? Does it vary? If so it might be the slave cylinder. I had this happen to me twice already. The first time I got scared thinking it was the tranny but when was going to drain the fluid i noticed the boot on the slave was ripped and leaking so I replaced that and the clutch master cylinder and it doesnt grind or anything.

sometimes it seems to vary a little bit.... ill replace the tranny fluid and see how it feels. it i also took out my floor mats and now the clutch can go a little farther and it seems to be alright.... so alright in fact that i beat a mustang gt last night as well as a 1g gsx, so its doing alright for now. ill post updates and questions here.
