Do i need New rear end?

I have a 91 AWD TSi and i launched my car yesterday
after i did this every time i go to start out my car jerks and makes a wierd clunking noise in the rear. So i go home and put it on jacks and i could completely turn the wheel, while it was in gear, and it makes a noise while its turning. Now am i going to need to replace the whole rear end? Is the problem in the rear end? What should i do?

if it clunks in the rear end, then the problem is in the rear end or maybe the u joint. usually a rear end that is going bad howls all the time.

its not the u joint its the rear end awd should be posi track right well its dead so replace it
