will a 6 bolt head work in a 7 bolt?

will a 6 bolt head work in a 7 bolt? the holes in the head are larger but the dowels in the block should keep it in the correct spot i would think? i'm sure this has been asked before but i couldn't find anything usefull under the search. thanks in advance for all help!
