I got my engine in today at the shop, gave it a good looking over. This thing looked beat all the hell. The damn valve covers paint was almost all chipped off, so I guess no pretty red valve cover for me. Next I checked the cams, they seemed to be in good shape though, they didn't have burnt oil on them at least, a nice light caramel color.
Crank pulley was chipped....changed to my new on off my other car, Alternator was dirty as hell...(I have a new one though from my other car) All the mounting brackets had to be swapped so far they are all completely rusted. Everything aluminum on the engine was oxidized/coroded, looked like doo doo. I removed the intake manifold..(PITA, piece of crap cyclone that comes in 50 damn parts....worse then a supra mani) I poured about 1 cup of oil out of the runners..I'm praying that it is due to the shipping, that maybe the engine had been turned over or something. The turbo has no shaft play...I removed the entire exhaust side and intake side. Had oil in the compressor housing though when i took off the intake pipe. The throttle body elbow had some nice oil gunk on it too. I haven't even got to the clutch yet. We fought the tranny for about 2 hours trying to get it off, turned out after removing it, the spline had rusted and the tranny was stuck on. The entire inside of the bell housing was dirty as F, spline rusted, the clutch and flywheel were rusted like a mo fo, not just surface rust either...it was eating the metal. Then after removing the pressure plate and clutch, I found about a thousand scorch marks on the plate/disc surface. Look at all the pretty rainbow colors of the burnt pattern on the plate my friend tells me...what a jackass. I have new everything for this motor. The only thing i'm using on it is the head and block.
My Problem/Question is this.
With everything else being rusted like that, i'm thinking the cylinder walls are going to be the same. Is there anything I should do prior to start up to baby it and help it to come to life....Is this the norm for these old motors when you get one, or am i just being a ####?
Did anyone elses engines come the same way mine did? All dirty/coroded and stuff, look like it was used in a Drift Competition in Japan?
