rear brake piston (i know it threads)

I know it threads in but Im wondering how far will it thread back? The piston came out while I was working on the breaks (dont ask) and I threaded it back as far as with the bleeder open and the res cap off and there is only just enough room to fit the 2 worn pads. my new pads are so thing theres no way they will fit with the rotor in there. So will the piston go flush with the caliper, or how far out?

& Always take the cover off your Master Cylinder when you do that - males it much easier.

Sounds like you're ready for a new couple of calipers. Or, you reassembled yours wrong.

I just rebuilt all 4 of my calipers. The rear pistons spun in only so far, I had to use a C-clamp to force them in flush with the caliper. It didn't take much pressure at all, but more than I could do with my hand. If you do use a clamp and have your calipers painted, put a small piece of wood between the caliper and clamp to keep from scratching it.

Do NOT use a C Clamp on REAR calipers - PERIOD!
