Ok, here goes. I'm driving down this busy street, going up a hill, when i try to shift into third. Car boggs like crazy, just trying to completely fall on it's face when i try to give it some gas, so thinking i miss shifted into fifth or something dumb (having just put in a symbroski kit) I take it out and try 3rd again. Same thing, and this time when i take it out of gear, it just falls down and dies on me.

I pull into a driveway with the quickness and try to restart it. put-put-put-die on the first time, second time starts up, idles a little odd for a sec, then is fine. Needless to say, i'm like "WTF?" and checking my temp gauge and oil pressure gauge (stock gauges), everything looked normal. Pop the hood to hear my coolant boiling, but not overflowing out of the resevoir bottle. That's odd...my temp gauge was saying perfectly normal operating temp....

I checked my lower heat shield to make sure it wasn't shorting out on the pos. alt connection (had it spark a couple times on me yesterday when i put it back on). That's fine. Can't see any loose wires or anything that would have caused a short...

It's running perfectly fine now, like nothing every happened. Needless to say I was freaked out cause I thought it might have jumped timing or something......

I limp it to work, only giving it a little gas to see what would happen when I hit boost (not WOT, just boosting a lil.....did I blow off an IC pipe???)

I watch my gauges like a hawk the whole way to work, and didn't look down for about 3-4 min because of crazy rush hour traffic. I stop at a light waiting to turn into work and look down......HOLY $HIT!!!!!!!! Water temp gauge is pegged in the red. So on goes the A/C cranked on hot as hell with the windows down (mind you, it's about 90 out to begin with....) just to get as much possible air flowing over my radiator as possible. Bout 2 min later when i pull into work, the temp starts falling back down and I let it idle for a few to try to cool off with the hood open.

I notice another odd thing here....My newly installed slimline radiator fan is not on at all, but the AC one is.

I think we now know why i overheated.....But why did it die on me about 15 min earlier???

Needless to say, i call up a local awesome DSM guy to come to the rescue after work. A quick trip to autozone and a thermostat install later (in the middle of a big ass open mall parking lot mind you) I crank it back up. Still wants to over heat when I'm sitting still cause the fan isn't working....I'm trying to fix that as we speak.

My question is (after this long freakin post) is what would have made it die on me in the middle of traffic like that, and is there anything else I should look at/replace while i'm at it? I'm praying I didn't warp the head.....seems to idle perfectly and nothing seems any different after the incident.

Any help guys??

Turns out that the reason why it died in traffic that night (and last night) was a result of a bas Cam angle sensor. It did it a second time and threw a CEL at me, so I limped it to autozone, got the code, and replaced the sensor for 43 bucks at Satan (dealer only part) with a little hookup on the price.

Overheating is a result of both the fans not functioning properly, and the fact that they were trying to push hot air out through the radiator, AC, and FMIC cores, reversed the AC fan, works perfectly, but I'm having issues trying to get the radiator fan to fire up when it is supposed to. Still working on this one.
