it sounds like my girlfriend is having some tranny problems in her GS, so I thought I would post for your guys' advice...

Anyways, whenever my girlfriend goes over little dots on the roads or shifts from first to second we hear a clunk from the front driver's side, she says it seems to come from right in front of her, which is the transmission. It doesn't happen over every single bump, and seems to happen only when she's shifting a little hard into 2nd, so I think we're overreacting, but if anyone has any advice to give that would be awesome, thanks you guys, and give my girlfriend a good welcome to the DSM world.

When a car's driver moves the shift lever faster from gear to gear, the syncronizer ring has to stop it's gear from turning in less time than if the shift was made slower. Sometimes a gear change is made faster than what the brass syncronizer can physically handle and the gears grind/thump together before they mesh. Have her pause in neutral a split second on a hard 1-2 shift. Now, Im having the same problem , but much worse, so maybe somebody will have a better solution.

Edit: And welcome to your girl :) :dsm: :talon: :laser: :thumb:

Thanks for the help, that's exactly what it sounds like, but maybe not as bad as yours, as long as the car's not going to break down / blow up!
