i just put an engine in my girls nt 2.0 laser 1g...engine runs fine put when you get on the gas it makes a growling bearing noise, but its more than a noise cause it viberates the entire car...at first i thought it was a belt driven bearing so i took the belts off...and still there

has anyone experienced this? or can anyone guess to what it is?

thanx
gary

-You can try pin pointing the source with a long screw driver, touch the suspect area and put your ear on the handle to listen for the noise.

-I remove one belt at a time to see if the noise went away, until I got only the timing belt left, oil pressure was still high but may be the pump was on it's way out.

did your prob sound just like my mentioned sounds or different...where did u get your new oil pump from?

-It's grunting noise that comes and goes, only happen within a rpm range, kind of like the wheel bearing but with more grap grap grap...
-Get the oil pump/front case as a unit from them , excellent price on lifter too.

thanx for all the help but i figured out what the noise was...the oil pump must have turned during timing chain replacement and i never bothered with inserting a screwdriver in the rear of engine case to check balance shaft...to make a long story short i f***ed up and lost 3 hours of time

so just a helpful hint with timing belts ALWAYS CHECK OIL PUMP BALANCE SHAFT

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but after you rotated the oil pump gear around another 360 degrees, did this solve the noise problem? Because I have the SAME exact problem. Did you in fact have to replace your whole oil pump assembely ? I forgot to check the shaft clearance with a screw driver (like it says in the vfaq)...oops

yes it solved all my problems and tought me my lesson for the day.........always follow directions entirely and completely...... if i would have followed all the directions i would have saved my self time.... OMG
