My car ran out of gas last nite.So i filled it up about 10 bucks to get home and when i was driving back it seemed like the fuel pump was clogged or something ,it would work to its full potential.Do u think that the fuel pump could go from just running out of gas.I got told that these cars (dsms) dont like running on very little gas because the fuel pump cant cool properly or somthing.Could this actually happen? or will injector cleaner solve the problem?

It could be the fuel filter but ,it got changed proably like 6 months ago! Hoiw can u determine if theres a leak in the fuel lines? i cant really smell gas when car is running or anything. Is fuel filter hard to change by ur self?

I would think that your best bet is a clogged pickup on the fuel pump. What happens is all the crap in your gas tank settles to the bottom and as long as you don't ride around with the car on "E" you normally don't sturr too much of this stuff up. When you do run on "E" or actually run out of gas the only thing that the pump has to supply the motor is the dirty gas at the bottom of the tank. Go to the vfaq and read about the fuel pump install, then remove your pump and see if it is in fact the clogged pickup. You might just be able to clean it up or replace the filter. And to answer you other question, the pumps are lubicated by the fuel, will running the pump for a short time without any gas kill it? Probably not, but long durations of running without lubrication probably would. I don't know if you have a fuel leak, I mean if the problem never came up before i would definately say that it would be the pickup. Like I said the v-faq has directions for removing the fuel pump, if it's anything like the 2G then it isn't too bad.
