ok, the GST is blowing out big puffs of white smoke every so often and is burning oil...is this the thing that i am thinking that it is but dreadin to hear it??? if so, how much is it to fix??? and, should any other stuff be done while the engine is open???

Might just be blown seals in your turbo - pop off your intake tube and check for shaft play. After that, check compression. If its good, then its most likely your turbo. If compression is bad, then its your HG. Also if there is water/coolant in your oil (drain it out and look) then your HG is shot.
