I have a 91 eclispe gs and have tons of problems with keeping the car cool. so any suggestions would be great, and i was wondering if i could put a radiator from a 2.0 turbo or any other radiator thats bigger to keep car cooler, thnx brandon

-Are the fans working while the car is stationary? did you flush the cooling system? is the coolant good? is the thermostat good?

the odds of it being a radiator are pretty small. First check the water pump operation. Next check the thermostat. 95% of the time you will find your problem in one of these 2.

To check the water pump just pull the upper radiator hose and start the car up....does water come shooting out? (this may require removal of the thermostat).

i have changed the thermostat already but that didnt work, and i was having problems keeping the fan on but that is fixed so i will follow your advice and see what happens, thnx

Granted, the thermostat and the fans and the water pump, are all common problems, but the radiator is a very big "odd" in the cooling system. Radiators should be flushed regularly (once a year) because of the corrosion that builds up in them. I have had radiators that looked exceptional, but they did not cool properly because the were pluged at the bottom with corrosion and sludge.
So don't over look the possibility!!!
I would start diagnosing with the fans first though, and then check thermostat. Idle the car with the cap off, and watch the temp guage while watching for the fans to turn on. And while your letting it warm up, you need to be watching the thermostat housing to see if the anti-freeze/coolant is cerculating, you can see when the thermostat is open, and if the pump is pumping (with out the mess). If all that works, then you need to keep the radiator in mind.

I am going through the same issue.....new thermostat, newer water pump and it is still over heating....fans work, so I am leaning towards the radiator...I checked it and the fins look like someone ran their hand down it.....I found one on ebay that I picked up, it may be cheap, but it is aluminum..

It only has like a day left on the auction and a couple of them left....cheaper than some others that I found :thumb:

If your car doesn't have A/C then you could wire the A/C fan in series with the primary fan and have them both come on simultaneously. My car doesnt have A/C so i scrapped the A/C module on the fan and wired the 2 power wires togeather with the 2 power wires from the primary fan. I put a weatherproof connector in the A/C wires so I could unplug the second fan in the winter for that extra lil temperature hike. So now when i hit temp both fans kick on and off at the same time. Just watch what way the fan blades turn when hooking up the wires, it will spin both ways depending on the wiring.

installed second fan now since i dont have ac from the advice above but still overheating so i am getting a new water pump today, if that doesnt work ill get a new radiator from ebay Thnx again
