I don't think it's the rings! See these comp. results! and fuel in oil???

Alright, everyone following this, reminder, when I first got the car back from the shop the comp test results were 139, 141, 155, 141, so they have actually gone UP since then and since the car started running more badly. New numebrs are:

(from 1 to 4, l to r)
145
145
155
155

On cyl 3 it is blacking out (oily) plugs in a matter of minutes after new ones are put in. The car stumbles like a mofo at lower speeds and misfires like crazy until you get high rpms (likely due to this plug I'd say) and eats oil like crazy (quart or two a week!).

The shop was saying it was rings causing this so they wouldn't fix it, but these comp results say otherwise! My neighbor thinks it is a valve bent or valve seal, or valve not seating. I was satrting to think it was a HG but wouldn't that cause low compression?

Oh, another weird thing, I went to check the oil today and it was about 2 inches ABOVE the full mark when it was a quarter inmch below it last night, and no oil has been added. It almost smells like fuel in it?

What do you guys thinks?

Thanks, Ryan

Bad ECU :thumbdown - Mine did this when I bought it - BEWARE because you can bend a rod trying to compress a cylinder full of gas - Mine did that too - Make sure you have no P/S Fluid leaks on Alt because that can kill your new ECU.

You should lose compression due to this, also.

Yes, but you'd notice other things like your coolant overflow building up pressure, overheating, white smoke, milky oil, etc., etc.

I don't see where anything in your combustion chamber would cause you to leak oil; you'd lose compression if you're losing oil. Maybe you just have an oil leak somewhere you haven't noticed yet.

I'd try a new ECU, you could just have an oil leak and your ECU could be causing you to run extremely rich on one cylinder. Black plugs usually mean you're running rich, but you can also be getting oil inside the combustion chamber. See if you can look at a Haynes manual from your local parts store (or library, even) and identify what type of deposits are on the plug.

Also, I think my ps reservoir or pump might have a leak

You need to check that out; it'll burn an alternator up quick.

Bad ECU can fail to wide open on Injectors during start-up, flooding Crankcase with gas - I'm not making this up - Seen it happen on mine - Would like a pic of the bent rod?

Yes - & sometimes Voltage Regulator fails to closed - You may see 18 Volts & burn up your Refurbed ECU - been there - done that too. :talon:

Hmm, but this JUST started after I got the car back from the shop. And also the blacked plug is covered in oil.

I'm taking it down to them tomorrow. It really seems like a HG because under the hood it sounds like you can HEAR the compressione scaping, it's become louder than my exhaust with gutted cat and supertrapp muffler (basically straightthrough). The oil consumption has gotten worse over time.

Also, it IS smoking white/gray smoke heavily, especially at idle, but clears up once speed is gained kinda like a HG would do. No antifreeze in the oil but it might be busted elsewhere than the water jackets and also it may be more misinstalled than blown since it wa sdoing this right after I picked it up and they had put the new mitsu 3 layer HG on.

The smoking along with oil consumption has gotten worse and worse over time.

I guess if changing HG does nothing then I'll start on ECU and such, but it'd be awful coincidental for the ECU (which just got replaced a couple months before it went in) would go bad (showing zero signs before this) right exactly the day I picked it up from the shop.

Thanks for the help guys.
